The Butterfly Pattern 2nd Edition by Tula Pink

The Butterfly Pattern 2nd Edition by Tula Pink

The Butterfly quilt pattern is back by popular demand! The pattern is essentially a sampler quilt made of many different traditional quilt blocks arranged into a giant butterfly centered on a graphic chevron body.

The new revised pattern has been updated and expanded to include a complete fabric guide to replicate the cover quit ideal for making kits. Some of the pattern improvements include larger layout and sewing diagrams, quilting diagrams, updated sewing techniques, coloring page and two different center body options while still being the same great pattern that people love. The 8-1/2in x 11in, booklet is beautifully printed in full color.

The pattern is designed for an intermediate level quilter. This is a great patchwork technique builder incorporating strips, triangles and curves to create a dynamic and surprising quilt top.

Fabric Rough Requirements(You may require more if Fussy Cutting):

  • Wings: 7 Yards - use a variety of eighth, quarter, or half yards to equal the 7 yard total. The pattern includes a list for fabric used on the cover. 8.25 yards is required to copy the cover exactly.
  • Body: 1/4 yard of light and 1/4 yard of dark. You will need a 7" x7" square of 10 different colors to make the rainbow body.
  • Background: 3 yards. Select a fabric that is significantly lighter than the wing fabrics to enhance the contrast between butterfly and backing.
  • Border: 1-1/4 yards
  • Backing: roughly 8.5 yards of 42/44" width fabric OR roughly 2-5/8 yards of 108" width fabric. I say roughly because this can change depending upon how you are going to longarm and finish the quilt.
  • Binding: roughly 3/4 yard. Again this can change based on how you want to do your binding.
